The Sherwin Pessin Memorial Chapter is the founding chapter of the Leukemia Research Foundation.
After Sherwin Pessin passed away in 1945, his aunt, Esther Reckles, gathered a group of friends and family together and a memorial club was formed to raise funds for leukemia research. At that time leukemia was not well understood. Through the hard work and dedication of these men and women, the Leukemia Research Foundation came into being.
The Pessin Chapter still receives donations. The chapter has been responsible for raising over $250,000, not to mention a 70-year-old nonprofit organization that has assisted thousands of patient families and researchers throughout the world.
