2006 Nurses of the Year


Susan Burke is a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner at the Children's Hospital of Wisconsin in Milwaukee where she has been caring for pediatric oncology patients for the past four years.

On the nomination form, a mother wrote...

"My daughter loves Susan and always makes sure she is there when we go to the clinic. Susan made us feel like we were the only family she had to care for! We feel Susan made our family stronger and able to work through an unbearable situation."

Susan is a member of the Oncology Nursing Society as well as the Wisconsin Chapter President of the Association of Pediatric Oncology Nurses.


Lisa Dobogai is an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner in the Stem Cell Transplant Unit at the University of Illinois Medical Center in Chicago.

One of her colleagues wrote . . .

Lisa is a member of the University of Illinois Visiting Faculty, Illinois Nurses Association, the Oncology Nursing Society, the Chicago Chapter of the Oncology Nursing Society and the Illinois Society of Advanced Practice Nursing.


Alla Donets has been a dedicated oncology nurse for nearly 19 years at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital. One of her colleagues wrote that she . . .

"takes care of leukemia patients with care and expertise. She always gives 110% when she comes to work and is always advocating for the patient."

She is the chair person of her unit's shared governance team and is also a member of the Oncology Nursing Society.
